PUBLISHER NOTES

Hello everyone. This is the very last issue of Preschool Entertainment. We've been running for over 10 years--a long time by Internet standards, and it's with a motherly tear that I say goodbye to this site. I'll still be reviewing books, CDs, and videos for older children at my other site, compulsivereader.com and if you haven't already subscribed to the newsletter there, please do so, as the giveaways, interviews, and reviews will continue, growing up with your children. For our last news, The International Board on Books for Young People has announced the shortlist for the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards. The prestigious biennial awards honors "a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made lasting contributions to children's literature." The shortlisted authors are: Ahmad Reza Ahmadi of Iran, David Almond of the U.K., Bartolomeu Campos de Queiros of Brazil, Lennart Hellsing of Sweden, and Louis Jensen of Denmark. The illustrator shortlist consists of: Jutta Bauer of Germany, Carll Cneut of Belgium, Etienne Delessert of Switzerland, Svjetlan Junakovic of Croatia, and Roger Mello of Brazil. The winners will be announced on March 23 during the Bologna Children's Book Fair. The winner of the John Deere giveaway was Pam Scott and Charlene Kuser.

A liberal use of the kazoo keeps everything light and fun, and the way in which the use of imagination is encouraged is excellent. 30 minutes is just the right amount of time too -- not so long as to leave your children zonked, but still enough time for a meaty show, that will allow you to get dinner on (or finish that business report...).
