The future seemed so clear…until lightning struck

Julia Fairchild successful psychologist is engaged to marry her love Dr. Mac Brantley.
But while on a getaway, she is struck by lightning, literally. Although her injuries were
not severe, her perfect life begins to unravel as she develops an attraction to Dr. Steve
Duke who is treating her exit wounds from the lightning.

Dr. Brantley and Dr. Duke grew up as bitter rivals. Mac had all the best of life, old money, captain of the basketball team (coveted position by Steve). Mac won the scholarship to college, while Steve had to go through the military to obtain his education.

Relationships of all the main characters begin breaking down. There is more deceit, betrayal and dishonesty than one could possibly imagine; having more twists and turns than an old, dusty, winding, country road. Just when things begin righting themselves, another wave of unexpected developments hits.

Money, inheritance and love all play big roles in Mac’s and Julia’s lives. Mac has an
older brother, Frank, while shady in his dealings, truly loves his brother. Frank hopes for
Julia and Mac to have a beautiful life together as they are well-suited.

Lust and greed accelerate as Julia goes from Mac to Steve until Mac is in an almost
fatal accident Julia feels is her fault. Frank and Emalino (Mac’s ex) continue their love affair of many years although Frank is married to Delores. Delores doesn’t appear to
care, because she’s got an ace- in- the- hole that Frank knows nothing of…yet.

This story is smart, fast-paced and suspenseful. The surprises keep coming long after
you think “that’s got to be all”. Louise Gaylord is masterful in creating believable
characters and uncanny circumstances. A national award winning author, Louise
Gaylord is at the top of her game. A riveting and exciting read.
