Larry Portzline’s innovative effort to promote independent bookstores resulted in this original book whose goal is to encourage bibliophiles to organize ‘bookstore road trips’ all over the country. Larry, who is a writer and part-time college instructor in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the founder of Bookshop Junkie Press and www.bookstoretourism.com .

BOOKSTORE TOURISM is a unique book in its field that was inspired and written with the independed bookstores in mind, many of which struggle to survive. The author shows all the concerned indie bookstore owners how to market themselves as a package deal for tourists. “Start thinking of your community as a ‘Bookstore Town’” Larry suggests.

The book is crammed with useful tips and advice on how to organize a road trip to indie bookstores and urges booklovers to start a group in their own community and help local bookstores survive the competition of mega –book store chains and online booksellers. There is ample material inside, explaining all about Bookstore Tourism and showing why all booklovers should promote this special kind of tourism . By participating in road trips to bookstores there are great benefits for everybody involved, from the bookshops and the readers to the travel agencies and restaurants. But above all, education is promoted all over the country.

At the end of the book the author displays a number of names of popular towns that can attract bibliophiles, and ends up with a list of National booksellers Association. The book caters to all booklovers, educators, readers, those in the Arts, Travel agents, etc. The main goal of BOOKSTORE TOURISM is to promote Literacy.
